Sustainability programme
Expert of sustainable rental housing
Our goal in the sustainability programme period 2023–2026 is to be an expert in sustainable rental housing.
The themes of our sustainability programme are sustainable housing, communities’ well-being and sustainably profitable business. Our programme’s policies are linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Communities' wellbeing
- Employee wellbeing
- Comfort and wellbeing in residential communities
- Diversity and equality
Sustainable housing
We enable sustainable housing for our residents and encourage them to make sustainable choices in their daily lives. Our greatest climate impacts are from energy consumption during the residential use phase and from the construction and repairs of our homes. Combating and adapting to climate change are at the core of our sustainability work: we improve the energy efficiency of our homes and increase the share of emission free energy in total consumption.
SATO will be carbon neutral by the end of 2030 in terms of in use energy consumption.
We promote circular economy and biodiversity in our activities.
- We reach carbon neutrality in terms of in use energy consumption by the end of 2030,
- We specify our carbon neutrality roadmap and the scope of our carbon footprint calculation.
- We aim for energy class A in new construction projects.
- We determine recycling targets for our contractors.
- We increase our residents’ awareness of environmental impacts of housing.
- We formulate our first biodiversity plan.
Communities' wellbeing
For SATO, social sustainability means that we look after our employees and their wellbeing at work and coping, health and safety at work, competences as well as equality and non discrimination. Social sustainability is also about responsibility for our customers and their comfort and wellbeing in healthy and safe residential environments.
We promote diversity and seek to reduce inequality in society. We provide our customers with meaningful housing, and together with them create pleasant residential environments that promote wellbeing.
- Our target is to prevent work overload: we monitor coping and wellbeing at work through close dialogue and surveys.
- We carry out personnel competence surveys and development plans.
- We use data to deepen our understanding of the factors affecting the customer experience and residents’ comfort.
- We create “a SATO recipe for encounters” for interaction with our customers.
- We update our equity and non discrimination plan.
Sustainably profitable
For SATO, good governance and economic sustainability mean ensuring profitable business in a long term, transparent and responsible manner. Profitable business enables our investments to sustainability work and to creating residential environments that promote our residents’ wellbeing.
SATO’s sustainable business is based on common ground rules, careful and proactive maintenance of our home buildings, long term ownership as well as high customer satisfaction. For us, sustainability is about practical actions that are visible in everything we do.
- We create an internal quality system for core processes, carry out a compliance survey and create an annual clock for compliance.
- We follow and prepare for the requirements of EU taxonomy.
- We formulate a training plan for training themed on policies and guidelines.
- We classify our suppliers, and develop a self assessment model as well as ESG criteria for procurement.
- We follow and prepare for green finance requirements.
