SATO: Saving energy in the common interests of residents as well as rental housing provider

SATO Corporation, Press Release, 31st March 2016 at 1:10 pm
SATO water-saving competition starts tomorrow
It is particularly important for a large rental housing provider to include residents in the efforts to reduce energy consumption in buildings. This is the second year SATO is organising a water-saving competition in its buildings in which all of the residents as well as the building manager and maintenance person of the winning building will receive a prize.
Director Juha-Pekka Järvenpää from SATO:
- The water-saving competition is an efficient way to get all of the building's residents into saving energy. Last year the winner was a building in Lahti that reduced its water consumption by almost 20%! The residents pulled together and came up with lots of good ideas on how to save water. Many were surprised to learn how much just one dripping tap contributes to the overall water consumption of the building.
- Last year the specific water consumption of SATO buildings was more than 400 l/m3, and our aim is to go below 350 litres by 2020. The measures taken by us to reach this include installing water-saving fixtures in our rental homes, investing in reductions in water consumption in major renovations in particular, and steering the activities of building managers by setting targets relating to cuts in water consumption.
- Last year we participated in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) and received the highest possible recognition, the Green Star. We're determined to stick to this path where the environment is taken into consideration in everything we do into the future too.
The water-saving competition starts tomorrow and closes at the end of September. All buildings fully owned by SATO are automatically included in the competition.
