Fira and SATO sign cooperation agreement on development and implementation of home renovation projects

22 June 2022

Construction services company Fira and SATO, one of Finland’s largest rental housing providers, have signed a cooperation agreement that will enable the sustained, joint development of home renovation projects. Fira will assume responsibility not only for home renovations but also for the technical management of project development. Fira aims to double the annual rate of home renovations from 200 units to 400.

Instead of the traditional approach of contracting for one site at a time, SATO’s steadily rising housing stock provides an excellent platform for the sustained development of renovation projects. Continuity makes it possible to leverage industrial construction methods, which considerably enhances project efficiency. Fira aims to double the annual rate of home renovations from 200 units up to as many as 400.

“My long-time dream of the construction industry creating the conditions for genuine and ongoing improvement in close cooperation with the client has now been made a reality, thanks to SATO’s progressive and target-oriented thinking. As a construction services company, we strive to improve construction productivity by speeding up the project flow rate and by delivering higher cost-effectiveness and quality. Our cooperation agreement with SATO on the development and implementation of home renovation projects puts us in an excellent position to accomplish just that,” says Sami Kokkonen, Director of Housing Renovations at Fira.

“SATO carries out modernisation of its housing stock in keeping with lifecycle principles. Hundreds of rental homes are modernised each year; last year, for example, modernisation was completed on a total of 354 rental homes. Scenario-building at the project planning stage allows us to determine the approach to renovation project implementation that delivers the best results in terms of both technology and economy. Close cooperation with Fira will considerably boost the productivity of modernisation projects as well as their overall standard of quality. In modernisations, SATO always aims for higher resident satisfaction as well as higher property value. A further aim for us is to achieve energy efficiency improvements of at least 30% at the modernised building,” says Jari Kanervo, Technical Director at SATO.

The first renovation project under the new agreement, to be implemented in the Martinlaakso district of Vantaa, is already at the planning stage.
